Cornell Fracture Group Software

Policy Statement Regarding Access and Use
Copyright: Cornell Fracture Group 1985-2003

Members of the Cornell University Fracture Group (CFG) have developed research-oriented software for the purpose of simulating both 2D and 3D crack growth. The set of distributed executable programs currently consists of FRANC3D, OSM, BES, FRANC2D, CASCA, and HYFRANC3D. Unsupported executable versions of all of these programs, except for HYFRANC3D (see below), are freely available from the CFG Internet site.

The National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Boeing Commercial Airplane, Northrop Grumman, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Airforce, Schlumberger, and others have financially supported this software development.

Ownership of the programs, however, remains with the Authors. Users are free to use the programs after downloading them from the above Internet site or via anonymous ftp (www.cfg.cornell.edu). However, neither the Authors, nor the Cornell Fracture Group, nor Cornell University, nor the Sponsors are obliged to provide support or maintenance of these programs. Neither the Authors, nor the Cornell Fracture Group, nor Cornell University, nor the Sponsors are responsible for any use or misuse of the programs or the results, and assume no liability or responsibility to any person or company for direct or indirect damages resulting from the use of the software. The user is responsible for any and all conclusions that are made while using the programs.

The source code for the above software is not made publicly available. Access to the source code for research purposes only is possible; researchers are required to send a written request to Professor A. R. Ingraffea. The Authors retain ownership and copyright of all the source code and the CFG requests that any modifications and additions to the source code be relayed back to the CFG.
